Forest School at Netherfield

IMG_3110

As part of our 'Enrichment Explorers' sessions on a Friday afternoon, each class at Netherfield are able to access a six-week block of forest school sessions. These are held on-site in our forest-school area and are led by Miss Timberlake, who is a qualified forest-school practitioner. These sessions take place year-round and in all weathers. We are lucky enough to have a purpose build out-door classroom, kindly fundraised for by our PTFA.

What is forest school?

Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that takes place outdoors, where children can explore, play and learn in a natural environment. It encourages curiosity, independence, confidence and a love of the world around us.

Through regular sessions in the outdoors, children take part in hands-on experiences such as investigating plants and animals, building dens, using tools safely, working together and taking manageable risks. Some sessions include cooking over campfire and children are taught how to navigate this safely. Forest School supports children’s physical development, communication skills, problem-solving and emotional wellbeing.

What does my child need for forest school?

Forest School is an outdoor learning experience in all weathers so children need to come prepared to enjoy exploring, investigating and playing outside whatever the conditions.

Please send your child with:

  • Wellies
  • Waterproofs
  • Home clothes that can get muddy

Most importantly, children should come with excitement and enthusiasm ready to make the most of their outdoor learning.
