How our Christian Values Underpin our Curriculum

RE

Through our Christian Values of

Forgiveness, Endurance, Friendship, Justice, Compassion and Thankfulness.

  • We want to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary allow them to understand the beliefs of others.
  • We want our children to seek to develop those ‘big’ questions in RE.
  • Think about how RE may factor into other areas of the curriculum.
  • to understand and appreciate the beliefs of others and show respect and kindness for those beliefs.

Mathematics

Through our Christian Values of

Forgiveness, Endurance, Friendship, Justice, Compassion and Thankfulness.

  •  Our children will make rich connections across mathematical ideas and vocabulary helping to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving. This should help children to apply their mathematic knowledge in other subjects.
  • Our children will ensure their thinking is clear to themselves, others and teachers should ensure they challenge this thinking to probe and remedy any misconceptions.
  •  Our children will know that maths is a creative and highly interconnected subject. They will explore learning through unique, individual and systematic approaches.
  •  We will provide a foundation for understanding the world around them and develop a sense of curiosity and appreciation of the beauty that mathematics provides.

Science

Through our Christian Values of

Forgiveness, Endurance, Friendship, Justice, Compassion and Thankfulness.

  • We want our children to have specific skills and knowledge for biology, chemistry and physics and understand the methods and processes and uses of science. We want our pupils to focus on the key features of scientific enquiry including: scientific questions, observing over time, pattern seeking, identifying, classifying, conducting fair tests and researching using secondary sources.
  • We would like our children to be encouraged to engage meaningfully in more sophisticated discussion of experimental design and control.
  •  to understand the power of exploration and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.
  •  We want our pupils to understand how science is vital to our world’s future prosperity.

Computing

Through our Christian Values of

Forgiveness, Endurance, Friendship, Justice, Compassion and Thankfulness.

  • We will equip our children with knowledge, skills and vocabulary that helps support the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science including logic, abstraction, algorithms and data representation.
  • Our children will use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
  • Our children will know how they can create their own programs, systems and range of content. We also want children to express themselves and develop their own ideas.
  • Our children will be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology that is at a suitable level for future workplaces and as active participants in a digital world.

History

Through our Christian Values of

  • We want our children to have a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history, establishing clear narratives within and across the periods they study.
  • Children are participants in designing their own pathways to successful outcomes. We want to enable our children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, debate and develop perspective and judgements.
  •  to understand the varying methods of historical enquiry and to find unique connections and interpretations to historical concepts.
  • we want our children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the diversity of society and relationships between different groups as well as their own identify and the challenges of their time.

Geography

  • Our children will have the knowledge, skills and vocabulary that enhance their understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes and how they have changed over time.
  • Our children will be able to collect, analyse and communicate information and independently apply their knowledge, skills and processes.
  • Through geography, our children will communicate geographical information in a variety of unique ways.
  • Our children will understand about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

RSHE

Through our Christian Values of

  • Our children will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills and strategies required to live healthy, safe, productive, capable, responsible and balanced lives.
  •  Our children will be able to clarify their own values and attitudes, and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future.
  •  Our children learn to be enterprising and we support them in making effective transitions, positive learning and career choices and achieve economic wellbeing.
  • Through RSHE, we help our pupils develop understanding of themselves, empathy and the ability to work with others to form and maintain good relationships. They develop the essential skills for future employability and better enjoy and manage their lives

Art and DT

Through our Christian Values of

  • Our children will have the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
  •  Our children will think critically and seek to develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design.
  • Our children will produce creative pieces, explore ideas and record their experiences.
  • Our children will know about great artists, craft makers, designers and understand the historical and cultural development of different art forms.

French

Through our Christian Values of

  •  Our children will have the knowledge, skills and vocabulary that provides an opening to other cultures. Children will be able to understand and respond to spoken and written language.
  • Our children will seek to speak, write and read languages and search it though authentic sources.
  •  Our children will express themselves and respond to others developing an appreciation for language.
  • Our children will understand about the cultures of others and equip children with the skills and abilities to be able to study and work in other countries.

PE

  • We want to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary that develop competence and confidence in a wide range of physical activities.
  • We want our children to seek to develop and excel in competitive sports and other physical activities, which supports their health and fitness.
  •  to perform physical activities that help to build character.
  •  to understand about what it is to lead a healthy and active life and help others around them achieve this too. Through physical education, help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Music

Through our Christian Values of

  • Our children will have the knowledge, skills and vocabulary that show how music is created, produced and communicated.
  •  Our children will develop a love of music and explore their talents as musicians.
  • Through music, our children will be able to critically engage with music. The opportunities provided will increase engagement, inspire children and allow children to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
  •  Our children will understand music across a range of historical periods, genres, cultures, styles and traditions including the works of great composers and musicians.
