Daily Maths Activities

Week Beginning Monday 11th January

This week's Maths lessons build on last week's, looking in more detail at 2D shapes and their properties. including the properties of lines and angles looked at last week. We will also look at 3D shape. Please complete these daily maths activities. Click on the link and complete your daily maths lesson.

Day 1

 

In this lesson, we will recap what the various properties of 2D shapes are and begin to identify them within 2-D shapes. We will think about how to work efficiently and systematically.

In this lesson, we will be applying 2D shape vocabulary to accurately describe and draw them

Lesson 2

Day 3

 

In this lesson, we will be looking in detail at the properties of 3D and identifying these. This will build on our work on angles and 2D shapes.

Lesson 3

Day 4

 

In this lesson, we will be looking in detail at the definition of symmetry and how to recognise this in familiar 2-D shapes. This will build on our work on the properties of 2D shapes.

Lesson 4

Day 5

 

In this lesson, we will be revising all of the new learning from this week. This will include describing 2D and 3D shapes, lines of symmetry and all of the new vocabulary we have encountered.

Daily English Activities

Week Beginning Monday 11th January

We are continuing with our work on the BFG from the previous set of lessons. Our work this week will allow us to do a little bit more writing based on the BFG, as well as looking into some grammatical features encountered in the text.

Day 1

 

In this lesson, we will watch and order the second part of the opening. We will also look at ways to show not tell. Following shared writing, we will write the second part of the opening. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil. Happy writing!

Day 2

 

In this lesson, we will explore the rules associated with adding the suffix -ing. 10 spelling words will be explored and set to learn.

Lesson 2

Day 3

 

In this lesson, we will recap what a simple sentence is and define what a compound sentence is. We will learn what the three coordinating conjunctions are and when to use each one appropriately. We will also practise writing compound sentences using all three coordinating conjunctions. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper and a pencil.

Day 4

 

In this lesson, we will recap and write compound sentences. We will recap key vocabulary and use it to orally rehearse ambitious sentences to include in our writing. Following shared writing, we will carry on writing the second part of the opening. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil. It would also be useful to have your writing from last lesson next to you. Happy writing!

In this lesson, we will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Topic Activities

Week Beginning Monday 11th January

This week, I have included the rest of the Topic from last week. The beginning part, which focused mostly on volcanoes, is built upon here, with lessons on earthquakes, and on the consequences of these two natural disasters. Please click on the link to access the lessons.

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about why tectonic plates move, what an earthquake is and why they occur.

In addition to the above activities, below is a couple of lessons for Science on the topic of Light. This builds upon the work done last week, and is the second of three parts on this topic.

In this lesson, we will be learning about the difference between night and day. You will find out how the earth turns and why night and day happen. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

In this lesson, we will be learning about reflective and non-reflective materials. We will investigate which objects are made from reflective materials and which objects are made from non-reflective materials. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Religious Education

This term, Netherfield are focusing on the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments.  

Watch the story on You Tube and/or read it in the Bible. You will find the story in the book of Exodus, Chapter 20, verses 1-17. You could also read it HERE

Then, represent the story in your own way. You might...

  • Create a cartoon strip
  • Re-write the story in your own words
  • Draw or paint a scene from the story
  • Create a shoebox diorama of an important part of the story
  • Make some puppets and ask an adult to film a puppet show of the story that you narrate
  • Come up with your own idea!
