Sapphire Learning Projects.

Dear Sapphires,

Well done, 3 weeks of learning at home! I hope by now you have managed to create a routine of learning at home. You'll find links to each weeks learning underneath this letter or you can follow the arrow to the weekly tabs.

I have added new things for you to learn and explore this week. If you like to do things on paper I have included a year 1 and 2 learning pack. (See below) You can print off individual sheets that you want to complete.

I have also included some music lessons, I know you'll be missing your music lessons with Mr Dhalberg at school. There are more science and geography lessons; this will be the last week learning about Brazil.

Try to do some Maths and some English each day, plus some exercise and at least one other activity, just like you would do if we were at school. You should aim for around 3 hours of learning a day. There is more than enough to choose from, so don't feel you have to do everything everyday.

Don't forget to find time to read as you normally would. I have sent a code for you to be able to access Epic reading, where you can choose from a huge array of fiction and non-fiction books. If you belong to Amazon Kids+, don't forget there are lots of online books for you to choose from. You can email me via Purple Mash and tell me all about the book you've been reading or anything else you'd like to share.

Click on the link in each subject area E.g. 'Lesson 1', and it will take you to the Oak Academy, a special online 'school' with videos you can watch and activities and challenges to complete. You can use Oak’s online classroom on any device, and you don’t need to log in or remember a password. Each of the lessons is delivered by a trained teacher in a video you can watch. They will tell you at the start of each session if there are any materials you might need, such as pens, paper, etc. Some of the lessons also have activities, worksheets, and quizzes to complete.

There is also a grid of home learning choices for you to look at, all related to this year's whole-school local history work about 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. Try to do at least 1 or 2 of these this week but if you want to do more, fantastic!

Please do get in touch if you have any questions, would like feedback on any work you've done or if you just want to say hello and tell me what you're doing. I will respond to emails within the working day, but sometimes they may be delayed when I am in school working with Keyworker children. I will try to respond as quickly as possible.

Phonics

Please find below resources for phonics learning. I have included phase 3, 4, 5 and 6 morning starter powerpoints. These each include many short activities that can be dipped in and out of and should be used for around 5 minutes at a time.

I have also created links to Letters and Sounds videos, they are quite lengthy at around 20 minutes long and there would be no need to use the other resources if you choose to watch them.

If your child is in year 2 and is a free or competent reader, then please use the resources listed below for Phase 6.

If your child is in Year 1 or in Year 2 and is developing their reading and spelling, then please start with the Letters and Sounds videos or the Phase 3, 4 and Phase 5 resources. (The videos are around 20 mins long)

If you would like guidance on which phase to start your child on, please email me at: jpearson@netherfield.e-sussex.sch.uk

I have also included the common exception word lists relevent to your child's year group. Take 2 or 3 words a week for your child to read fluently and then spell accurately.

CBBC Alphablocks is also fantastic and fun way for your child to develop their phonic skills. These short videos are readily available on BBC iplayer and YouTube. Children also particulary like Geraldine the Giraffe on YouTube!
