Dear Rubies,

Wow, it's March!! How did that happen?? Only one week to go and then we will all be back together again! It has been such a long time since we have seen each other, but that is why I have appreciated all the photos and videos you have been posting on Tapestry- It helps me to see what you have been enjoying and the progress you have made! It also cheers me up!

This week, on Thursday March 4^th, it is World Book Day. If we had been in school together, you would be coming to school dressed as your favourite book character! So maybe this week, you could celebrate your favourite book by dressing up at home! If you visit the World Book Day website by clicking here, there is a wealth of ideas for you to try and engage with at home. Some of my favourite stories are included in their resources section. Try clicking on either the schools/nurseries tab or the families tab at the top of their page. There will also be some 'share a story live' sessions on Youtube, streaming from Wednesday to Friday this week at 10.30am. Follow the link here.

I have created a quiz for you to try, click here  I will give you the answers during Thursday's World Book Day special story session.

Here is a list of suggestions of things you could do at home to celebrate all the wonderful stories we have ever read!! Maybe you would like to:

• recreate a scene from your favourite story- use lego, playdoh, cuddly toys or small world pieces?
• draw a picture/create a painting and writ a sentence about your favourite part of the story
• make stick puppets and act out part of the story
• write a riddle about one of the characters and get your family to guess who it is.

Daily Phonics Lessons

This week we will focusing on reviewing sounds already taught. Having spoken to those of you who have been trying to keep up with the phonics lessons, there are some tricky digraphs you are finding it hard to remember and use in your reading, so we will re-visit them, and will most certainly be consolidating our previous learning nest week at school, to see how everyone is getting on.

Daily Maths Activities

This week Year Ones will be continuing their work on time, and Reception will begin to look at Measures, including length and capacity. Don't forget to click on 'Next' to see any worksheets or extra activities. Send me some pictures when you complete any of the tasks.

These English lessons are fun activities, for Reception, based around the story, 'Lucky Duck', and for Year One, looking at explaining 'How Beans Grow.' Please send me videos or photos of your learning, either on Tapestry, or email if you'd like me to share them on the website with the other Rubies!

Religious Education

We will now be looking at the story of The Good Samaritan. You could watch it HERE or HERE. 

There are lots of resources on Twinkl and elsewhere online.  

Then, represent the story in your own way. You might...

• Print out some sequencing pictures from the story and take a photo.
• Learn a song like this one HERE
• Re-enact it with small world figures
• Create a cartoon strip
• Make a little book to retell the story using simple sentences.
• Draw or paint a scene from the story
• Create a care package or carry out an act of kindness for someone you know in need or simply to cheer them up
• Make some puppets and ask an adult to film a puppet show of the story that you narrate
• Come up with your own idea!

We use a variety of online resources to help support what we do in school that your children can access at home if they wish. These include the following:

PurpleMash - a platform which has various games, apps, topics, and projects included to support both the Computing and wider curriculum.

Letterjoin - a website to support children with their handwriting, including a range of online and printable resources.

Fitter Futures - a physical activity website with tons of indoor and outdoor workouts for children to try if they wish.

Your child should have their own personal logins for both PurpleMash and Fitter Futures. The school login for Letterjoin has been shared previously. If you need it, please do not hesitate to email me. The same can be arranged if your child does not know their PurpleMash or Fitter Futures login.

Keeping Active

Whilst you are away from school, keep fit and active by undertaking some of these challenges. Send me information on your performance! You can also log in to Fitter Future and complete the suggested Daily Timetable - one workout each day - or choose any from their extensive list of workouts. You will need your username and password to access Fitter Future. If you don't remember it, you can email me and I will send it to you.
