SMSC - Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
What is SMSC?
A school has a duty not just to the the academic progress of the students, but also to develop and nurture each student as an individual. SMSC refers to the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of a child and at Netherfield school we do this by ensuring that all aspects of school life reflect the ideology that the child as a whole counts.
How is it delivered?
SMSC is a feature of every aspect of school life at the Netherfield CE School. What this means in real terms is that:
• SMSC is promoted through a planned tutor programme which includes PSHE, Citizenship and Weekly themes.
• SMSC is promoted through our assemblies which directly link into the weekly themes.
• SMSC is promoted through guest speakers and off-timetable lessons/days that complement the work done in the curriculum.
• SMSC is promoted through each area of the curriculum.
